ARTENGINE

Challenge

Artengine, an artist-run future lab in Ottawa, is a hub for innovation at the intersection of art and technology. Its new space, designed to foster collaboration among artists, designers, technologists, and researchers, is a striking example of thoughtful architectural design. However, despite its significance, Artengine lacked the visibility it needed to fully engage the community and communicate its impact. To bridge this gap, they partnered with House of Common to develop a compelling visual narrative that would introduce Artengine’s mission, space, and role within the creative ecosystem.

Strategy

The strategy was to lean into the architectural beauty of the space, using it as a visual metaphor for the curated support Artengine provides to its artists and collaborators. Drawing inspiration from photographer Lynne Cohen, whose work resonates with Artengine’s aesthetic, Rémi embraced a structured, intentional approach to cinematography. For this project, he took on the role of Director of Photography while Matt Delaney led as director, organizing the shot list and shaping the narrative. Their highly collaborative process ensured that the visuals carried the weight of Artengine’s story while maintaining a clean, modern, and striking visual identity.

Solution

The result was a single, high-impact production day that captured everything needed to amplify Artengine’s presence. Through interviews, photography, and cinematic B-roll, the content was designed to be repurposed across multiple campaigns, from social media engagement to investor fundraising and video explainers. By combining strong visuals with a compelling narrative, the project provided Artengine with a dynamic toolset to showcase its space, mission, and the vibrant creative community it supports.
